Hi, my
name is Minna Sundberg, I'm a Finnish woman born in Sweden 1990,
and it is I who am ShadowUmbre.
My alias
ShadowUmbre was born in 2003 when I launched my
first virtual gallery, Umbren
Metsä. A couple of years later
I started to do artworks and graphic design on commission. Up to date the majority of my
orders have come from Germany, UK and USA.
I started to study art already at the age of 7,
as an extracurricular activity after ordinary school hours. 2000 - 2006 I
studied basic art techniques at Espoo Art
School, which was followed by the Art- programme at Tölö Gymnasium
(an Upper
secondary school) from where I graduated in 2009.
In 2010 one big dream came through when I was selected as a
student at
Aalto University, School of Art and Design, in Helsinki.

My art
Perspectives,
color
schemes and mood settings are important factors in my
artworks but I also like to include some surprising, funny
detail in my artworks My wish is that the viewer can sense a
little bit of me in everything I paint.
Fantasy art in general and dragons in special
belongs to my
favorite
themes.
I don’t know where my inspiration comes from or why it
fluctuates so drastically. Sometimes there are so many ideas
in my head that I fear that there isn't enough time to paint
them all. That’s when I can’t sleep at all. Then suddenly, I
don’t get any connection with the work at hand and all
inspiration just vanishes. Talk about frustrating!

Tools
In the area of digital art I'm self taught. I started
with PaintShopPro; it was cheap and easy to learn. I
still keep it in my tool box for colouring my comic-strips
otherwise I have shifted to use Photoshop.
My tablet has always been a Wacom. Currently I’m
using the model Intuos.
When it
comes to traditional art I usually work with
watercolours., combined with black markers. I use the markers first to
draw out the picture, and then paint it with the
watercolours.
I put just one requirement on my markers: they have to be
water proof. I’ve done the mistake of grabbing a
non-waterproof marker, worked for hours before starting
colouring with my watercolours, just to see how everything is
ruined. Promise, it takes a while before one is ready to
take on a new piece of paper after something like that!
Hope you like my artworks.
